Sterlin Gilbert

Coach Sterlin Gilbert is considered one of the most prolific offensive minds in the country during a coaching career that has spanned two decades including stints over the last ten seasons as the offensive coordinator and/or quarterbacks coach on the FBS level at Tulsa (2015), Texas (2016), South Florida (2017-18), Syracuse (2020-21), and Cal-Berkeley (2024).

Before joining the collegiate ranks, Gilbert coached at four different high schools in Texas (2003-04 Springtown; 2006-07 Abilene Cooper; 2008-10 Lake View; and 2011 Temple) and also spent one season as a graduate assistant for offense on the collegiate level at Houston in 2005.

As a head coach, he led his alma mater - San Angelo Lake View High School - for three seasons (2008-10) where he rebuilt a program that had won only three games in three years prior to his arrival to a team that won the 2008 Bi-District Championship and the school’s first playoff game in 12 years.  He was named the West Texas High School Coach of the Year in 2008. A decade later, he would lead McNeese State as its head football coach to a 7-5 season.

As a player, Gilbert was a three-year starter and two-year captain quarterback who led the Angelo State Rams to back-to-back Lone Star Conference South Division titles in his final two seasons as a 2000 junior and 2001 senior while finishing his career fourth all-time at the school in total yardage.

In 2016, Gilbert was inducted into his high school alma mater’s Hall of Fame. As a standout Lake View high school quarterback, he threw for over 5,000 yards and accounted for almost 70 touchdowns.
